ORIENS
Who are you Oriens?
The Oriens project is a cultural proposal, non-profit, focused on education on geography and physical perspectives of the Earth, through which an integral and natural alternative of “Orientation” of the human being on the planet is presented, as Terrestrial Observer.
Through this project, a change in the way of understanding the orientation of the human being in the world is proposed, since, traditionally, the North has been used as a geographical reference with which the representations of the Earth have been aligned on maps and globes. ; This orientation is what is maintained even in the imagination of people.
Through Oriens, we suggest a more natural way of orienting oneself in the environment, towards the East or Oriente, which is the place where human beings observe the sunrise.
Our proposal is not arbitrary but arises from a critical review of the physical and geographical perspectives that have been used until today. We intend to generate a new line of discussion by questioning the hegemony of the North as an orientation reference.
For the first time in history, a geographical perspective is supported by scientific arguments. Now the time has come for its disclosure and to open a reflection in the community about a new opportunity to see the world.
ORIENS CELL
Oriens Cell is a very innovative franchise, where young entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to manage the cultural proposal, with the necessary tools for its spread in other cities and countries.
The franchise module includes an inflatable dome, which can be assembled in a couple of minutes, anywhere, for example, squares, parks, museums, universities, schools, fairs, malls, etc. And in addition, the module includes the packages of Oriens Geovisión publications and training, so that the franchisee has the opportunity to obtain the best benefit and growth from his work.
To spread our project, we look for cultural spaces, where we can promote, in a self-managed, independent and sustainable way, the materials we publish: books, maps and globes, designed based on our geographical proposal.
In order to reach the community in a didactic way, we have developed playful means to inspire in them a freer, fairer and more natural human vision of the world.
Exhibition booth
The module comprises an inflatable hemispherical dome 10 meters in diameter that represents the world: both the Earth and its shape and the space environment in which we live within the cosmos. That is, the interior of the dome represents the surrounding space from our position as terrestrial observers, which will facilitate the reading and understanding of the directions or cardinal points and their meanings.
General purpose
Through this dome-stand, the objective is to offer visitors a natural and playful reading of the geoperspective -or geographical perspective- from wherever we are.
The exhibitions that are held have an average duration of 4 minutes -to allow the circulation of the greatest number of visitors possible- and that all people, of different ages, can have the opportunity to listen to the explanation of the project.
The dome-stand has the capacity to receive an average of 25 people per exhibition.
Inside the dome-stand, the content of the project will be exposed through the presentation of our book on Geographical Orientation, a world map, an astronomical map and an inflatable globe of 12 cm in diameter.
Particular objectives
Part of the surplus economic resources of this cultural work will be destined to the production of new dome-stands, in order to expand the social coverage of the proposal and, thus, offer temporary jobs, as exhibitors, to recently graduated university students.
Another part of the resources will be used to finance research focused on astronomy and ancient geography of the equatorial Andes, carried out by the Quitsato project, which is the center of the studies of this proposal.
“Appealing for the time and space necessary to motivate a world in equity.”
