THE BEST DOCUMENTARY ON ANCIENT ASTRONOMY AND THE EQUATOR

EQUATOR A NEW WORLD VIEW

"The Equator is, literally, the source of all life. It's the Eden where we and all other creatures begin."

This documentary made by the DISCOVERY CHANNEL together with the QUITSATO team shows us the best compilation of ethno-astronomical discoveries about the solar culture in Ecuador, and its great importance in the culture of the first civilizations.

Recognized as the best documentary on astronomy, the equatorial region is the area with the greatest biodiversity on Earth and the only one where creatures do not become extinct. It is a land where the days never vary, where there are no seasons, and where, twice a year, there are no shadows.

WHAT IS QUITSATO?

It is a large sundial, 52 meters in diameter, made with a large stone mosaic that indicates the different lines of the solstices and equinoxes, as well as the hours of the day. These are marked by the projection of the shadow of a large 10-meter-high post that is located exactly in the center of this large circular platform.

LATITUDE ZERO MY EQUATORIAL ADVENTURE

This has been an indescribable adventure, during which I was able to discover and understand alignments, astronomical relationships, and lighting effects that our ancestors in the region worshipped centuries ago.

By Cristobal Cobo Arizaga Director of the Quitsato Project

How important is it to know ourselves through Ancient Astronomy?

A NEW PERSPECTIVE

Cristóbal Cobo has been crossed by the equator for as long as he can remember. He has spent decades researching the astronomy, history, archaeology, and geography of his home region. In this episode, he discusses ancient astronomy, offers a different perspective on how to navigate the world, analyzes the agricultural calendar, and shares his and our ancestors' relationship with the mountains and the celestial vault.

Is Ecuador's Archaeological History at risk of disappearing?

The Catequilla in critical condition

The most important archaeological site for Ecuador's astronomical history, "El Catequilla," located in San Antonio de Pichincha, is severely damaged by the destruction caused by the negligence of authorities. This report by Teleamazonas details several aspects that have led to the destruction of one of the greatest treasures in the country's archaeological history.

QUITSATO STATEMENT

In order to offer our services in a more complementary way and because the Cayambe Solar Museum is a self-managed and independent project, we thank our public for recognizing a new value as a contribution to the entrance to the Cayambe Solar Clock.

• $5.00_______ Adults (General Public) • $3.00_______ Children under 12 years old, seniors, and people with special needs

We see this increase as necessary in order to offer a complementary service with the new rooms of the Solar Museum.

We appeal to your consideration and are communicating the increase promptly, so that people in the tourism, cultural, and educational sectors are informed in a timely manner about this emergency requirement.

Thank you very much for your understanding. Sincerely, Quitsato Project, March 2022

QUITSATO SUNDIAL

The Quitsato Sundial is the first and only Middle of the World Monument, located exactly on the Equatorial Line or Zero Parallel.

It is a large sundial, 54 meters in diameter, made with a large stone mosaic that marks the different lines of the solstices and equinoxes, as well as the hours of the day, which are indicated by the projection of the shadow of a large 10-meter-high pole located exactly in the center of this large circular platform. The monument functions as both a great calendar and a sundial, making it the best place in the world to understand the apparent movements of the Sun, how the seasons work, the history of the calendar, the agricultural calendar, and various astronomical and educational geographical aspects that make this site so remarkable in the minds of our visitors.
